With it's beautiful golden beaches, mountain peaks and medieval hill top villages, Languedoc-Roussillon is one of France's most diverse landscapes. Officially the sunniest region in the country, it is also France's wine growing capital and probably the largest wine growing area in the world. The name Languedoc comes from the language Occitan and means literally 'Langue d'Oc'.

Walking The Cevennes National Park is a hill walker's paradise. Its tree covered slopes, dry stone terraces, isolated hamlets, and wealth of wildlife, can all be discovered from its 300 looped footpaths.
Cycling The Languedoc is great for cyclists, both on the quiet roads through the vineyards and for off-road mountain biking where many trails exist through the forests and around the lakes of the mountains. Bike hire is available at certain locations.
Canoeing The River Orb centre at Roquebrun has various canoeing packages available. The Gorge de l'Herault is only ½ hour away and offers some of the best gorge canoeing around. Skiing The Pyrenees lie about 2 hours to the South-West of Autignac. The ski resorts Les Angles and Font Romeau are within a day's outing or overnight accommodation is available.
Children's attractions African animal reserve (1 hour from Autignac).

Montpellier The university town of Montpellier is one of the France's most thriving and dynamic cities and the largest city of the region. Attractions include a wide central square, the Place de la Comedie, the Polygon (a smart new shopping complex), a fine old quarter, the Arc de Triomphe and the Jardin des Plantes, which is the oldest botanical garden in France.
Béziers The large town of Béziers has a host of cultural events throughout the summer and is a haven for history buffs with its dominating cathedral and stories of the Cathars. There are dozens of restaurants and pavement cafés to choose from, an unbelievable flower market and superb food market.
Perpignan Perpignan is a pleasant southerly city with palms and plane trees lining it's promenade and lies about 1 ¼ hours away from Autignac.
Narbonne A quiet town with one of the tallest gothic cathedrals in France.
Carcassone Carcassone can be reached in about 1 ¼ hours and is Europe's largest medieval fortress and one of the best preserved. Horse drawn carriages provide guided tours or you can explore on your own.
Nimes The city of Nimes, with its perfectly preserved Roman arena is the best example of a Roman city outside Italy. A few kilometers away is the Pont du Gard - a spectacular Roman aqueduct spanning the River Gardan.
Lac Salagou A beautiful lake which makes a great day out for the family. The water is a lovely temperature in the summer and pedaloes, boats and windsurfs can be hired.
Canal du Midi The Canal du Midi, constructed 1666 runs for 235km through the region and it's 100 locks link the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. The towpaths offer superb cycling and walking and you can hire a boat or take a cruise between various centres from Sete to Carcassone.
Beaches Valras Plage is the nearest beach to Autignac (30 mins). North-East of Valras, Serignan is also a popular choice.
St Nazaire Gorge de l'herault Beziers Lac Salagou
The region is said to boast the highest annual sunshine in France (300 days has been claimed). The winter is short, really only December and January. Spring and autumn days can be beautiful with really warm sunshine. June, July and August are, of course, the hottest time of the year, with average daytime temperatures in the high 20s, although they can reach the mid 30s at times.
