Autignac
is a beautiful, unspoiled, small village in the heart of the Languedoc
region. A twisting maze of houses and lanes that are fascinating
to explore, full of traditional French architecture and ambience.
Autignac
has its own bakers, butchers, chemist, post office and general store
as well as the cafe by the church where the local vignerons take
their well earned lunch and meet in the evenings to enjoy a 'Pastis'
or 'Biere'. The atmosphere is always friendly and visitors always
feel welcome. A small market visits weekly where you can buy the
local produce. This is well worth a visit and gives you a great
insight into the French way of life. A large InterMarché
is 5 minutes drive away near the village of Magalas.
During
the hot summer days the shutters of the houses remain closed,
opening in the cooling evening as the village comes to life.
The early evening is a wonderful time to explore some of the
paths that thread their way through the vines giving superb
views of Autignac and the mountainous panorama. The sunsets
are always spectacular as the sun goes down behind the mountains.
Autignac
is one of seven communes that make up the Faugère wine
appellation.Wednesday
is market day in the nearby village of Magalas and a pizza van
parks itself in the village square every Friday evening!
